August 2019 Newsletter

Welcome to our latest Newsletter.

First we must apologise because this newsletter is VERY late, but there are good reasons :-)

When the newsletter was due to be sent in April, we did not have many new items to let you know about. The reason for that soon became clear, but more on that later. Also around that time we found out that the Newsletter programme we used was no longer available, we have obviously solved that problem or you wouldn’t be reading this :-o

We were still pretty busy finishing off the new DKY website (more on that later too) and starting the new Craft Bits website (ditto). We kept saying to ourselves, “When we finish the websites we will get the newsletter written”, but as often happens, that plan went out the window.

Slap in the middle of the CB website upgrade, we found out that there were a LOT of new items from our yarn suppliers which we did not know about. There then followed a mad dash to finish the CB website to be ready to add the new items to DKY and remove the discontinued shades.

When we eventually got the full list of new yarns and colours we were astounded by how many there were. These new items were from the spring/summer season AND autumn/winter, which means double the amount there would normally be. There also seems to be a vast number of new yarns from Sirdar, Sublime and Hayfield, more than the last few years combined.

A decision had to be made on whether to send out a newsletter before we started or to wait until all were done. As the list is so long, and taking a while to do, we decided to go somewhere in the middle and send today before we finish the autumn/winter yarns. We have created a special page online for you to see all the new yarns, even the ones not completed yet.

https://www.knitting-yarn.co.uk/m-info-new-yarns.htm

That brings us to our next question, which ones to get in stock and which ones to supply on pre-order? All yarns are available by the ball, even the pre-order yarns, therefore the question is not as hard as it was when we only supplied pre-orders in packs. But we would love some help from you, our customers, as to what you, our customers, think we should stock. The reason for making up that special page online showing all the new yarns now becomes obvious. We would love you to check it out and contact us with your suggestions. Don’t worry, we won’t hold you to it, we just want to know what you think everyone will like :-)

Enough of the waffle - lets see the yarns.

New Items

We really don’t want to bung up your inbox with a massive email, therefore only the highlights are shown here - although it is still very long :-(

You can find the full list on the DKY Forum (no need to register to view) in the sections for Hayfield, James C.Brett, Sirdar and Sublime. You can also find some highlighted on the “New Items” page on the website - https://www.knitting-yarn.co.uk/m-info-new.htm

Items in Stock

We have two New Yarns from James C.Brett.

Driftwood DK in 6 self patterning colours in 100g balls plus 4 pattern leaflets.

It's Pure Cotton DK - 10 colours in 100g balls plus 6 pattern leaflets.

There are 8 new Pattern Leaflets in Double Knit from UKHKA - 187 to 194, although we do hear there are more new ones coming soon :-)

We have new colours in James C.Brett Baby Double Knit 400g balls, James C.Brett Baby Twinkle DK, Sirdar Snuggly Double Knit 50g balls, Sirdar Alpine Luxe Fur Effect (shown), Sirdar Funky Fur, Hayfield Bonus DK 100g and Hayfield Journey DK (shown).

We also have 6 JCB Flutterby Quick Knit Pattern Leaflets.

Pre-order Items

There are 8 new yarns already online 'by the ball' and 12 more still to add. Two of our favourites are shown here.

Sublime Isabella DK comes in 16 colours and is a blend of 55% Wool and 45% cotton. Sublime say it has a "wonderfully clear stitch definition and is fully machine washable."

Sirdar Snuggly Bouclette has a cute bobbly effect and comes in 12 shades. Sirdar says it is "a natural wool blend which combines a fun texture with a babysoft touch."

Remember, all the new yarns can be viewed online.

There are new shades in 14 James C.Brett yarns, 9 Sirdar yarns and 12 Hayfield yarns with 83 more to come in both Sirdar and Hayfield. Any yarn with new items are noted on their main pages and the new colours are noted within the yarn pages.

We have finished all the new Sublime updates with new shades in 9 yarns, one of which (Baby Cashmere Merino Silk DK) has 17 new shades.

Surprisingly, we can only see one new book at the moment, Sirdar Snuggly Baby Pastel Book 529. We assume it uses the new Sirdar Snuggly colours and you can see a slide show of the designs on our website.

We are sure there are more new books, we just haven't found them in the mountain of info we have to go through.

And we are sure there are hundreds of new patterns too which will be put online as soon as we can :-)

New Websites

One of the things we have always wanted for our new website is a search bar. Because our site is not database driven (we prefer the flexibility of Hand Coded) a site wide search bar is not easy.

We could use a Google Bar like quite a few other sites, Google would trawl our whole site and throw up any page with anything on it which is included in your search term - often not especially relevant or helpful.

After much searching and testing, we have chosen to add a table search bar to each of the main Site Maps pages. We think this, coupled with the ability to sort the table which we have used for a while, is the best option available to us at the moment.

We would love customers to check this for us, especially as we do not have access to every browser and device that connects to the internet.

The following list shows the different pages the search bars are on. Please post, message, tweet or email us with what you think :-)

The other big change we have made on the new DKY responsive site is to unify the shopping basket with the original website on www.cpu-enterprises.com. Whichever site you shop on the items will all go into the same basket. There are links on the basket page back to the original website and new website (shown below). We hope that, even if you started shopping in the original site, you will try out the new site when you get to the basket page.

And finally – our sister site Craft Bits was the only CPU Enterprises site not optimised for mobile. We have spent the last few months re-designing the whole site and getting it ready to go live. Because of a restriction on size of the Craft Bits hosting, we have created a temporary version on the cpu-enterprises hosting for checking and testing. You can access the new site, and order, via the following temporary link.

https://www.cb.cpu-enterprises.com

At the moment, orders placed on the above site do not go to the same shopping basket as www.craftbits.co.uk orders, but we hope to unify them in the next month, just like the DKY website above. When we are sure it all works, the existing CB website will be removed and replaced with the new one.

Any feedback you can give on any of the above will help enormously.

blue break line

There should also be a section on here about new items on Craft Kits, but we will leave that for next time :-)

blue break line

Remember, all links to our site in this newsletter go to our new Responsive Website - www.knitting-yarn.co.uk. If you prefer our old style desktop version you can still find it on www.cpu-enterprises.com at the moment, but new items will not be added to that website.

We hope you found something interesting above, if not let us know what info you would like to see. We really value your comments and look forward to hearing from you.

You can contact us via Facebook DKYarns, Twitter @cpu_dky, Google+, the DKY Forum, or e-mail on any of the following - contact@cpu-enterprises.com - contact@knitone.co.uk - contact@knitting-yarn.co.uk

Winter 2018 Newsletter

Welcome to our final Newsletter of 2018.

This email covers Last Xmas Posting Dates, Holiday Opening Hours, Part 6 of Behind the Scenes, New Items and a link to an interesting blog.

With Christmas less than a month away, everyone always seems too busy to relax. So why not combine presents and relaxation by crafting your gifts this year?

There has been a lot of publicity about the Martin Lewis campaign to stop unnecessary gift giving. Obviously not for children, but for the extended family and friends, the list that seems to get longer every year. If you really feel you can't stop because others still give to you, then why not make your gifts. We are sure they will be cherished long after other gifts are sent to the charity shop. Or better still, give items to get them started on a craft you love, part of your present could be your time to teach them :-)

Our sister sites - Craft Kits and Craft Bits - have suggestions for gifts to make, plus bits & bobs to help you jazz things up or finish off those crafty gifts. We have a list on our website of Gifts and Accessories, you also still have time (if you are quick) to make that essential Christmas Jumper or Socks.

We would love to hear what you decide to do this year on our Forum, Facebook page or on Twitter.

Most links to our site in this newsletter go to our new Responsive Website which is now fully live. If you prefer our old style desktop version you can still find it on www.cpu-enterprises.com at the moment. Both are being updated at the moment, which means double the work - check out Part 6 of Behind the Scenes below.

We hope you find something of interest in this email - please let us know if you do, or let us know what you would rather we include in the next one.

You can contact us via Facebook DKYarns, Twitter @cpu_dky, Google+, the DKY Forum, or e-mail contact@cpu-enterprises.com.

New Items

This month we have a new yarn, some new pattern leaflets and a couple of new Pre-order colours. We have only shown the yarn below, so please do check out the DKY Forum for a full list.

James C.Brett Funny Feetz 4ply is a self striping sock yarn in six bright colour combinations. It is made from a blend of 75% Superwash Wool and 25% Polyamide (nylon) which makes it hard wearing and durable.

Although it may be designed for Socks, we firmly believe you clever knitters will soon find more things to do with this fun 4ply yarn. Feed your Imagination!

Earlier we mentioned an interesting blog, as it is related to sock knitting we decided to slip it in here.

The UKHKA promote knitting in the UK, they have an email newsletter and a blog which often includes some interesting articles.

The one that caught our eye in their latest email was about the Kitchener Stitch for seam free sock toes.

Click the picture to take a look and let us know if it is useful or if you have other tips you wish to share :-)

Behind the Scenes - Part Six

In some of the past newsletters we have talked about staff, postage labels and GDPR. Now our new responsive website is up and running, we thought we would give you an insight into what this means. We would also like your help with how to proceed with pattern pages and search functions.

A responsive website allows users on any platform (Mobile, tablet or Desktop) to have the best view of the pages. Sometimes this means there is slightly less functionality on smaller screens but you can still buy everything on the website.

Lets take a yarn page for example, there are three main things we would like to point out which change.

On larger screens there is a side bar on the right which shows patterns or books in that yarn. There are two lines of yarn swatches and you can click the swatch to get a bigger picture.

On smaller screens there is no side bar but you can get to the patterns & books via the top navigation bar.

There are still two lines of yarn swatches and you can still click the swatch to get a bigger picture.

On small screens there is no side bar and the yarn swatches become a single line going down the page.

The swatches automatically resize so you always get the best view for your device without a popup of the bigger picture.

The pattern and book pages also vary on different screen sizes. We have changed how each main page looks, with pictures of yarn balls and patterns instead of just text links. We hope that all makes sense, but if you have any more questions please let us know.

As the site is done "in house", rather than with a web design agency, it has taken much longer than we expected, but it means we can add new items quickly or remove discontinued items when they sell out. At the moment both sites are being updated, this means double the work, but we will continue to do this until we are completely sure we have the new site right.

We decided not to change to a database driven website because we did not want it to look like every other site out there. But no database means no search bar, we therefore have to rely on Site Maps to get you to the right place. However, we are testing a couple of new Site Map Search functions to make those pages more useful. We would love some of you to test the pages we will be creating over the next few months.

The other thing we would like some help with is how you shop for patterns. At the moment, we have patterns listed via manufacturer and yarn, plus a list of Fashion Dolls Patterns (asked for by a customer), Socks and Xmas Patterns. What other pages would you like? Or do you want a full list of all patterns as we have on our original website? We have created a Pattern Leaflets Poll and would love your feedback to help us create the right pages online. If you are interested in testing the site maps or pattern pages, please email us or fill in the poll and add your email address in the final section.

If you have any other questions or comments about the new site please let us know. If you would like to find out more about how CPU Enterprises and DKY started, you can read the past newsletter stories by Peter in our Archive Blog or previous Newsletters on our original website.

We hope you are finding our series interesting, if there is anything else you would like to see in our newsletters then please let us know.

Last Posting Dates and Holiday Opening Hours

You can find all our last posting dates, based on information from Royal Mail, for delivery before Christmas Day on the Info Pages online or via this link - Last Posting Dates.

We send our Non-UK parcels by Airmail, and different countries have different dates, so please do check out our list online.

All our UK parcels are sent by First Class Post, so if you order before 1pm on Thursday 20th December your parcel should be sent on that last posting date (subject to stock etc...)

We will then be closed until Friday 4th January 2019, but we will try to answer emails over the holidays if we can.

Please Note - the last time we will be ordering from our suppliers is on Monday 3rd December 2018. So if you are intending to order any Pre-order Yarns, Balls or Patterns, please order before 1pm on that date (UK orders only).

We hope you found something interesting above, if not let us know what info you would like to see. We really value your comments and look forward to hearing from you.

Everyone at Dianne's Knitting Yarns, Craft Kits, Craft Bits and CPU Enterprises would like to wish you all good health and prosperity over this holiday time and in 2019.

Help Us Decide - Spring 2018 New Yarns

Our suppliers have brought out several new yarns, and we love them all, but space is still tight. So we would love some feedback on which ones you would like us to get in stock first.

All the following yarns are already online in Pre-order Packs or on Pre-order 'by the ball'. Please take a look at any you may be interested in and then fill in our "Help Us Decide" poll via the following link.

https://goo.gl/forms/89sgSPlBXGHn9oJg2

You can view all the yarns on one page HERE or click each link below to go to the full page of that yarn.

We still have some Half Price yarns which, when they are gone, will make more space for these new yarns. Therefore we have asked you to put the new yarns above in preference from 1 to 8, but if you do not have to do that many if you do not want to.

Please let us know if there are any other yarns we currently only supply in Pre-order Packs that you think we should keep in stock.

We look forward to seeing your choices :-)

Easter Opening Hours

Due to the Easter Bank Holidays, our Phone Line opening hours will change over the next two weeks.

The top of our shopping basket does state the times the phone line is available. Remember you can order at any time and phone your card details through later if you don't wish to put your card details through the secure shopping basket. However you do have to go through the basket to the exit page so you can get the order number you will need when you phone up.

There are a couple of other changes to our opening hours coming up due to stock taking and staff holidays. They will be noted in the shopping basket nearer the time.

Behind the Scenes - Part Four

You probably expected that Part 4 would be about the final partner of CPU Enterprises (Peter) but he will have to wait. We have some different, hopefully just as interesting, behind the scenes news this time.

Regular customers, who have ordered in the last month, may have noticed that the labelling on the parcel is a little different. There is now just one (BIG) label with all the information on it instead of the 3 separate ones we used before.

Some time ago, Royal Mail created a booking & postage system for Amazon and Ebay traders. They have now released this system to small businesses and we decided to jump on board. We are not using all the facilities as it is mainly meant for businesses with database driven websites, but we are able to input addresses and generate the postage labels.

Unfortunately we had to buy a new printer from Royal Mail to do this, but they do supply the labels free of charge. However it will take a long while for the printer to pay for itself in the reduced cost of the old labels - of which we still have quite a few left :-(

It also means we have had to find a new ways of working within the office and warehouse. Labels used to be printed in the office as we booked an order, the label was then paper-clipped to the order and sent to the warehouse. The label would be put on the parcel when it was packed and, just before Royal Mail picked up the parcels, they were all weighed together and the postage price input online.

Now each label include a QR code, which your Postman scans, and includes lots of information about your parcel. This means the labels cannot be printed until after all the parcels have been weighed together just before Royal Mail picks them up. But we are using a lot fewer paper clips :-)

Dawn in the warehouse has got to grips with the system pretty quickly, including finding ways of identifying which parcel is which. But the way orders are booked in the office is very different and it is taking me a bit longer to find an ergonomic way to work. We do have to work a lot closer now when getting parcels ready for pickup, which is not a problem as we do get on well, even though we are sisters :-)

The main reason we decided to use this system is that we eventually hope to be able to add a tracking number to the "parcel sent" emails. The Royal Mail system is a little clunky at the moment, and the tracking numbers are difficult to access, but we have been promised there are lots of improvements in the pipeline. In the meanwhile, if you don't get your parcel when you expect, please do drop us an email and we will try to access the tracking for you.

Peter should get his time in the limelight in the next newsletter - so stay tuned :-)

Customer Survey

Since 2003 we have done a Customer Survey every 2 to 3 years, but it has been 5 years since the last one and we think it is well overdue. We have therefore created a new survey and would love you to hear your answers. You can get to the survey by clicking HERE, you can also find the full link on our Forum in the Polls Section.

The questions include the following and should only take about 10 minutes to fill in.

  • What crafts you do, how often, why and how did you learn.

  • Which yarns, pattern types and how many garments you made this year.

  • Which country are you in, your gender, your age range & your working status.

You can find the conclusions we made from all our previous surveys on our Info Page under the heading "Customer Pages".

If there is anything else you would like us to ask about, perhaps a question you have always wanted to ask other knitters, please let us know and we may well include it in future surveys :-)

You can contact us via Facebook DKYarns, Twitter @cpu_dky, Google+, the DKY Forum, or e-mail .

Half Price Clearance

Our Half Price Clearance Sale continues and, as noted above, we have added a couple more yarns to the list.

Sirdar Head Start yarn is a fantastic hat in a ball package which includes a really trendy pompom in a fabulously bright colour to sew on.

It is now Half Price at £3.72 per ball including pompom.

ball of heads up hat yarn Sirdar Heads Up is a super trendy hat in a ball package.

Each soft mohair blend ball is a softly striped ombré shade with a tweedy nep and a matching pom-pom to sew on.

It is now Half Price at £3.72 per ball including pompom.

We are having this Clearance as we need more room for all the new yarns that our suppliers have brought out. This sale is not an "up to" sale like many sites do, this is a genuine Half Price sale where every yarns is actually Half Price.

We also have a 20% off book sale which you need the following code for - BookSale20 - the list of books included can be found HERE. More books have also been added to this section recently, but you do need to put the code in the basket or the discount will not activate.

Don't forget we also have also hundreds of Pattern Leaflets at £1.50 or less - many are vintage patterns, some are for discontinued yarns and some are slightly scruffy or damaged.

You can get to all the above items via the Special Offers link on our website.

Behind the Scenes - Part Three

In previous Newsletters we gave you some insight into two of the Partners which make up CPU Enterprises. This time we have finally managed to get Diane to sit down and help write this Newsletter.

Dianne's Knitting Yarns was named after Diane as she was the power behind the business. There is an interesting story about the spelling of the name on our CPU Archive Blog.

Diane has been married to Peter (the final Partner) for over 50 years, has two children (myself - Carole and Dawn) and 3 grandchildren.

Miss Peaches Wool shop was Diane's first job when she left school and she has been involved in the yarn sector ever since in some way or other.

There is much more about Diane and her past on our CPU Archive Blog, including how and why DKY started.

At the moment Diane is semi-retired, spending the summer months with Peter on their wide beamed Narrowboat on the River Nene.

They enjoy mooring in remote places with the wild life all around and, most importantly, peace and quiet.

This is a real contrast to when they come home as the grandchildren spend 3 days a week living with them. This is mainly because Diane & Peter live close to the local College & Uni, but it also gives Dawn and me a break from the kids too :-)

Diane does pop back several times a month just to make sure we are doing well and we often give her a ring with customers questions. Before Dawn joined the Partnership Diane did most of the warehouse work, picking and packing orders. Now, when needed, she is mainly office bound - booking orders, printing labels and sending emails to let you know your order has been posted.

Knitting has always been a passion for Diane and she still loves to knit as well as Cross Stitch & Embroidery. However she is restricted due to arthritis and can only knit a couple of rows at a time now. Apparently Peter sits there laughing because she used to be so fast [NOT NICE !!]. If anyone has some tips on coping with arthritis please let us know and we will pass them on to Diane.

Diane's other hobbies include Codeword and Sudoku to keep her mind active. She also enjoys reading Horror novels on her kindle in bed !! Watch out Peter :-)

Although Diane is not in the office much, she is still an important part of the CPU Enterprises Partnership. She is kept informed of all the decisions we make and often gives us her opinion on new yarns & patterns. We are all proud to be working for a business named in her honour.

If you would like to find out more about CPU Enterprises and DKY you can read the past newsletter stories by Peter in our Blog Archive, plus Part one and Two of this series in our Newsletter Archive.

We hope you are finding our series interesting, if there is anything else you would like to see in our newsletters then please let us know.

Customer Survey

Since 2003 we have done a Customer Survey every 2 to 3 year, but it has been 5 years since the last one and we think it is well overdue. We will be creating a new survey shortly and would like your input as to what to include.

Traditionally we include the following subjects which helps us to get to know you better and help with the planning of what to keep in stock.

  • What crafts you do, how often, why and how did you learn.

  • Which yarns, pattern types and how many garments.

  • Which country are you in, your gender, your age range & your working status.

You can find the conclusions we made from all our previous surveys on our Info Page under "Customer Pages".

If there is anything else you would like us to ask about, perhaps a question you have always wanted to ask other knitters, please let us know and we may well include it :-)

MASSIVE HALF PRICE CLEARANCE

Our Half Price Clearance Sale continues and quite a few of the yarns are selling fast.

We do realise this time of year is not the best time for a sale, but we really do want to make some room for some of the many new yarns coming out soon.

The best sellers so far have been quite surprising, but probably the best ones for using this time of year. Sirdar Hush Soft Brushed Lace, Stylecraft Senses Lace and Sublime extra fine merino wool lace.

There are 46 yarns in total, all at Half Price, but strictly "while stocks last" - most are now at cost price or lower. The cheapest yarn in the sale is Stylecraft Carousel Double Knit at just £0.77 per ball +pp, but there are not many colours left.

We also have a 20% off book sale which you need the following code for - BookSale20 - the list of books included can be found HERE. Don't forget we also have also hundreds of Pattern Leaflets at £1.50 or less.

You can get to all the above items via the Special Offers link on our website.

Behind the Scenes - Part Two

In our February Newsletter we started this new series with details of Dawn our Warehouse Manager. This time it is my turn, we did want to talk about Diane but she has taken the summer off :-)

My name is Carole, it will usually be me who answers your emails and the phone during office hours. My official title is Office Manager, but we all muck in everywhere when needed. I do the majority of the website updates, the accounts and ordering - except yarns which Dawn does. I also help to run the Craft Bits part of CPU Enterprises along with Martin.

My background is in Civil Engineering and was lucky enough to be able to use some of the early Computer Aided Design programs. They also taught me a bit about Web Design, which has come in very handy. I took voluntary redundancy and joined the CPU Partnership 13 years ago.

I like to knit but I don't get much time. I have a cardigan I started before my daughter was born, she is now 26 years old! Can anyone beat that? I actually prefer to crochet, especially in thin cotton, and am very pleased that manufactures are now creating more patterns for it. I recently crocheted a glow in the dark hat for my husbands Mickey Mouse aerial topper :-)

I have one grown up daughter, who I am very proud of, and a wonderful husband who keeps me cheerful. Many years ago my daughter got me into dancing, I enjoy Ballroom, Latin and Line Dancing. My one night out a week is to a Line Dancing class with my husband where we help out the teacher. I enjoy playing 8 ball pool and was quite good - but not as good as Dawn. I played for the County and even had a couple of England trials - many, many years ago. I was also a qualified World Rules Pool referee, but I don't get much time for either now.

Running a business is hard work, but it helps that we all work well together and enjoy helping our customers. I am very proud to be part of the CPU Enterprises Partnership.

If you would like to find out more about how CPU Enterprises and DKY started you can read the past newsletter stories by Peter in our Archive Blog.

We hope you are finding our series interesting, if there is anything else you would like to see in our newsletters then please let us know.

New items

The only thing we would like to mention in this section today is Hayfield Blossom Chunky.

This is a pretty self-patterning yarn perfect for babies and toddlers with little "flowers" which appear in stripes as you knit. There are quite a few stripe / fairisle yarns about but most are DK, this one is a Chunky so a garment should be quicker to make.

We have all six colours, and all six pattern leaflets, fully in stock.

Quick Tip

The Shopping Basket Checkout has a Message Box you can put notes in for the warehouse to see. This is mainly used for dye lot requests, which we will always honour if we can. But you could use it to give an alternative colour just in case one has sold out - this will be especially useful during the Clearance (see below).

MASSIVE HALF PRICE CLEARANCE

This is our First Ever Clearance Sale and all the items on the Clearance List are are HALF PRICE - while stocks last.

All our previous sales have been time limited and needed a code to activate. We have decided we need to make much more room as there is so many new yarns we want to keep in stock. This is why we are selling all these yarns so cheap - most are now at cost price or lower.

The 20% book sale has also been reactivated but you do need a code for that - BookSale20 - the list of books included can be found HERE.

There are also hundreds of Pattern Leaflets at £1.50 or less.

Please Note - Some of the above items have very limited stocks, so if you like something please buy as soon as you can. You can get to all the above items via the Special Offers link on our website.

Behind the Scenes

Some of our longer term newsletter readers may remember that Peter did a series of stories about how CPU Enterprises and DKY started. Those stories are still available to read on our Archive Blog.

We know many of our customers enjoyed hearing about Peter and Diane so thought we would start a new series of behind the scenes stories & information. We are going to start with the members who make up the family partnership of CPU Enterprises and this month is the turn of Dawn who is the DKY Warehouse Manager.

Like all of us (except Peter) Dawn enjoys knitting, especially toys and novelties. In fact for Christmas she got the Sue Jobson Bear Book and some JCB Cushion patterns :-)

She has tried crochet but just can't seem to get the hang of it. But she does enjoy Cross Stitch and always has several on the go at once. However one is not going too well, it is a tiger on black Aida which she has been doing for 5 years and has still only done a 2 inch square. [Any tips on working on black Aida would be appreciated - Dawn]

Dawn has 2 teenage kids, a hard working husband and has been doing Karate to keep fit for 9 years - she is just one grading off her black belt.

Not only does Dawn pick & pack orders in the warehouse, but she also has to keep moving things around to find room for new colours and yarns we get in - a difficult job. Last year she took on the added responsibility of Fire Marshall after taking a short course at the local fire station. It has resulted in lots of improvements, including safer cabling in the warehouse & office.

Dawn is an essential part of the CPU Partnership and we could not run without her.

We hope you find our new series interesting, if there is anything else you would like to see in our newsletters then please let us know.

Knit for Peace Charity

We have been asked by the charity Knit for Peace if we can help raise awareness of what they do. We are therefore sending one of their bookmarks / rulers out in every yarn order. Many of our customers already knit for charity, usually one which is close to their hearts, which we would love to hear about. But if you would like to start knitting for charity, or have no current outlet for your efforts, you may be interested in this one. You can check out their website, and download some free patterns, at www.knitforpeace.org.uk

If you get a bookmark in your parcel and can't use the information, please feel free to pass it on to someone else who may be interested, or just use the bookmark as a bookmark :-)

We have set up a dedicated section in our DKY Forum for Charities where you can post your appeals or show us your work.
